Renaissance Faire

Today I went to my first Renaissance Faire. Ever since I was in junior high I had this mild fascination for that era. Something about knights, kings and queens, mystical beings, etc piqued my interest. That could explain why I love movies such as Lord of the Rings and fantasy-type books. Surprisingly up until now I had never been to the Renaissance Faire. I finally got myself and Ray out there and it was quite enjoyable. We were a bit worried about the wind chill factor that day but the weather there was a lot warmer than in SJ.

Immediately upon entering the grounds there was so much to see and take in. The faire was set up next to Casa de Fruta off the Pacheco Pass. With the many trees dotting the area it was a perfect place to have it. All the shops were set up on a winding pathway and it really made you feel as though you had been time warped into that era. What made it even more fun was that a lot of the faire-goers got into character and dressed during that time. Plus they even talked like the people back then did! I had a lot of "my lady" and "miss" directed at me.

We watched a jousting match, which was cool. Saw a couple comedic performances. The first one by the name of "Moonie" was pretty funny. It was pretty much done without talking and it was still hilarious. The other guy, Broon, was funny but not as funny as Moonie. We walked around a lot and looked at all the different things they had. They had these beautiful gowns that you can imagine during those times and I so wanted one to wear for Halloween but $370 is just not in my price range! The $25 entrance fee killed the spending possibilities. So we spent our meager $$ on food. I had planned on having a turkey leg but after seeing some ppl eat it I changed my mind. It just looked too massive and after the filipino breakfast buffet we had I was not that hungry. I settled for a meat pie which wasn't too bad and had a dessert of sliced strawberries with chocolate sauce.

Overall, I had a fun time. I think it would've been more interesting if we dressed the part to get into the mood but for the first time it went well. I may just go again next year!
