Mamma Mia!

Spent the day in SF on Monday. While we were in Europe this summer going on various tours we realized that we've never been on a local tour. You always see tourists visit the Bay Area going on tours and learning about this place that you've lived almost your whole life. We decided we wanted to be tourists for a day. We booked a double-decker bus tour along with an Alcatraz add-on. We also visited the Wax Museum, which neither Ray and I have been to. It was quite interesting and a bit creepy. It was really cool going on the bus tour because we learned little bits of information that I've never heard before. Like at the Palace of Fine Arts there's statues of women on top of the columns looking inward. They are supposed to be crying over the lack of culture in America. Or the statue in the Union Square park. The statue was made based on a young woman living in SF during that time hundreds of years ago and she became the most sought after woman because of that.

Another highlight of our day was dinner at Mona Lisa 3 in North Beach. During our bus tour the guide pointed out this restaurant and said she really liked it. We decided to give it a try. The inside (and outside) were gaudy. It reminded me of Buca di Beppo. The waiters had great italian accents (whether it's real or not I don't know!). But the food. Oh....my.....God. Ray's four cheese tortellini was so frickin' good. If you like cheese you would LOVE this dish. I had a clam risotto that was very yummy. And the tiramisu! Words can't describe! I hate amplifying things all the time but it was very good. Our waiter was totally friendly the whole evening. I enjoyed it immensely and I would definitely come back. Now if only the prices were a bit cheaper.....
